Cheap airfare and low cost travel seems to have hit turbulence in these summer vacation months with fares being revised upwards by most airlines to meet the rising cost of fuel. The peak season for tourists with holidays like Memorial Day, July Fourth and Labor Day, etc is facing a perfect storm which has been triggered by the higher travel prices. Travelers used to cheap airfares and last minute special discounted rates were in for a big surprise as shocking prices greeted regular commuters on online booking portals and counters alike.

Mr. Quinbey, PhoCusWright's senior director of research has advised travelers to be wilier as they indulge in advance bookings to grab the lowest fares. With three successful airfare increases this year , Rick Seaney, co-founder of FareCompare.com has commented that he would not be surprised to see a couple of more airfare hikes before the summer season sets in.

Cheap airfare seems to be a privilege of the past as airline tickets are being priced at least 10% higher than what they were last year. Travelers may still be optimistic about finding good deals and cheap airfare but they have to be flexible in their choice of dates and travel destinations.

One option for commuters looking for cheap airfares signing up for travel e-sites and tweets advertising airline tickets. Tweeting about last minute deals is the latest tactic being exploited by airlines to sell off their unsold seats.
Sounds good!! So the next time you want to feel lucky, just click on the link on Twitter that can help you with cheap airfares with ads like "Boston to Dallas flights from $99 one-way!"
